A Patchwork Madras Jacket 3 Ways

And the story behind the flashiest piece in my closet

The genesis for this jacket is all about a misstep many moons ago. Back in 2018, The Rake very kindly named me as one of their ‘Rakes of the Year’. My Mom was SUPER chuffed. The lineup that year was a veritable #menswear smorgasbord; Mark Cho, Kenji Cheung, Ethan Newton, George Wang, Kelly See, Jake Grantham, Alex Pirounis, Fabio Attanasio, Scott Schuman, Jean-Claude Colban, Yolanda Edwards, Matt Hranek, Richard Biedul, Jeremy Hackett, Anda Rowland, Audie Charles, Catherine Hayward and many more.

And me, of all people. I was amusingly referred to as ‘The Documentor’. A portrait was needed for the article so I reached out to my friend, Matthew Coles, who at the time was working at Drake’s, to see if I could borrow this amazing patchwork madras jacket they had. The snap was duly taken (for those interested here’s the shot) and then came one of the biggest mistakes of my (menswear) life; Matt very kindly offered me the jacket at a reduced price and I said… No.
