Bar Cart
The Sidecar
Sadly, this week’s Bar Cart with Chase Winfrey features no Chase Winfrey! Due to scheduling conflicts I had to captain this ship solo but never fear for within this origin story there still features a cameo from the titular man himself.
Enjoy!
It was a hot summer’s evening at Villa San Michele in Florence. We had just wrapped a shoot there on behalf of J.Mueser and a bunch of us we’re staying on for a little cocktail event that was being held there that night. It meant one thing and one thing only… A cheeky little half before things kicked off.
Chase and I ambled over to what can only be described as ‘a very good bar’ to peruse the selection. I was at a loss. Whenever I’m in Florence in the summer, or the winter for that matter, it’s hard not to knee jerk to a Negroni but I wanted something different and wasn’t sure where to start.
Luckily, as always, Chase to the rescue. He asked if I’d ever had a Sidecar, which I hadn’t so we promptly ordered two of those bad boys.
First sip I was hooked. I’m a sucker for sour candy so the lemon-y tang that accompanies this refreshing ‘tail was most welcome indeed.
Upon returning home I promptly set about trying to perfect this using my own home set up, which, if I’m honest, didn’t take too long as it’s a pretty straightforward mix.
I like having it in the repertoire for guests as now amongst the standard gin and tonic’s and headier martini’s and negroni’s, I have something to offer anyone who perhaps has a preference for sours.
RATING - This has become one of my go-to Summer drinks and that sun is fast approaching 9/10
