“Wait, so I’m just drinking PURE gin???”
This was the reaction Chase elicited from me while I was trying perfect the way I like a martini. Every now and again I like to try and add a ‘classic’ cocktail to the arsenal. Something that’s been around for a while, few ingredients, simple and straightforward enough to make.
A few years ago, over Christmas, I decided to throw a classic gin martini into the mix. I’d had some excellent initiations into the this heady world; one of my first being a Vesper at DUKE’s but had no clue on how to mix my own. So when I decided to try my hand, I reached for Matt Hranek’s A Man and His Kitchen. I figured if anybody was going to have a good recipe etc it would be Mr. Negroni himself. Sure enough I found instructions for a gin martini but when I read the directions I was thrown by one part -
